We carry on with our Meet the Team series by popping in for a chat with Comparison Director of stickee, Damian Carvill. Get to know him here…
stickee: How did you end up working for stickee? Tell us how you got here (can you tell us a bit about your background, your last job, perhaps your degree)?
DC: I worked in publishing prior to starting at stickee, for a couple of different companies which produced books for software developers. I set up the marketing and e-commerce functions in my previous role and helped grow the business from one publishing book to over a thousand. I then joined the stickee team three years ago and in that time so much has changed. I joined to manage the mobile phone comparison side of the business and when Bobbie took up an external consulting role, I became MD. Since then, we’ve moved from the centre of Birmingham out to Solihull and doubled the size of the business.
stickee: Can we get you a tea or coffee? How many sugars?
DC: Coffee please, no sugar.
stickee: What were your first impressions of stickee?
DC: Friendly, passionate, knowledgeable with an unrelenting desire to make things happen.
stickee: Who would play you in a movie of your life?
DC: Oh wow, let me think… how about Dominic Cooper as he’s the same age as me and my brother is called Dominic.
stickee: If you have a life outside of stickee, what do you get up to?
DC: My three year old boy takes up most of my time, however when I get some time to myself I go to the gym, I like to cook and I’m currently in the process of getting my old band back together for a one-off charity gig, so looking forward to playing some music again.
stickee: It’s lunchtime, someone offers to get you whatever takeaway you desire, what do you go for?
DC: Perios – Birmingham’s best kept secret!
stickee: What’s your favourite book, film and album?
DC: Favourite book is probably Shantaram, by Gregory David Roberts, or Things the Grandchildren Should Know by Mark Oliver Everett. So if you’re an author with three names, I’ll probably like your book. Favourite film is Back To The Future – I wanted to be Marty McFly when I was a kid. Album is probably Lost In The Dream by The War On Drugs but that changes depending on my mood.
stickee: What’s the best holiday you’ve ever been on?
DC: I travelled around China for five weeks with my wife about 10 years ago and that was memorable, but in no way relaxing!
Thanks Damian, we should probably let you get back to your work…
